As it is for most of you, golf is my passion. The fact that we are golfers means we share much in common. We are continually striving to learn more and better our golf game. In the pursuit of improvement, we have all experienced: success, failure, confidence, frustration, anger, fascination, laughter, life lessons, friendship, love, hate, and joy. At one time or another, most if not all of us have vowed to never play the game again. But then we hit that one pure shot that keeps us coming back. I believe this is a big reason why we love the game of golf. It requires so much and cannot be conquered.
Golf is in my blood. My grandfather, Pres Summerhays, was the head golf coach at the University of Utah. My father, Lynn, played collegiate golf, and for several years served as President of the Utah Junior Golf Association. My uncle, Bruce Summerhays, is a Champions Tour winner and was also an accomplished golf instructor. His daughter, Carrie, is a former LPGA Tour player. My younger brother, Daniel, has played over five seasons on the PGA Tour and is currently ranked in the Top 100 in the world golf rankings.
As soon as I could walk, I had a golf club in my hands. My father taught me the fundamentals and my fascination and love for the game quickly developed. As a junior golfer, I won over 75 junior and high school tournaments, numerous national junior events, and three Junior World Championships. I was a four time American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) High School All-American and at age 16 was ranked No. 1 in the country and named the Golfweek/Titleist Junior National Player of the Year. I played collegiate golf for Oklahoma State University with teammates and PGA Tour winners Charles Howell III and Bo Van Pelt.
As a professional golfer, I won over 20 events. I earned my PGA Tour card in 2003 and from 2004 to 2006 competed in 29 PGA Tour events. I also played on the Web.com Tour, PGA Tour Canada, and several other professional tours.
Through teaching, like playing, I have met so many good people. I feel very fortunate to teach a game I love to people that share in my passion. Currently I am the Director of Instruction at McDowell Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. I feel honored to be nationally recognized as one of Golf Tips Magazine's Top 30 instructors and have contributed articles and content for Golf Digest and other golf related magazines.
Currently I instruct and coach PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and Web.com Tour professionals, NCAA, amateur, high school, and junior golf champions. I also equally enjoy helping the every day golfer to improve their golf game and lower their scores.
Come see me, I can help you.
