My Story

Golf is in my blood. My grandfather, Pres Summerhays, was the head golf coach at the University of Utah. My father, Lynn, played collegiate golf, and for several years served as President of the Utah Junior Golf Association. My uncle, Bruce Summerhays, is a Champions Tour winner and was also an accomplished golf instructor. His daughter, Carrie, is a former LPGA Tour player. My younger brother, Daniel, played  8 seasons on the PGA Tour.
As soon as I could walk, I had a golf club in my hands. My father taught me the game and my fascination and love for golf quickly developed. As a junior golfer, I won three Junior World Championships and was a four time American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) High School All-American. At age 16 I was ranked No. 1 in the country, being named the Junior National Player of the Year. I played collegiate golf for Oklahoma State University with teammates and PGA Tour winners Charles Howell III and Bo Van Pelt.
As a professional golfer, I earned my PGA Tour card in 2003. I also played on the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Canada, and several other tours during 11 years as a professional.  At age 32, I took the knowledge and experience gained from the success and failures I experienced throughout 25 years of competitive golf, and began teaching the game to others. Quickly, seeing the progress and success of my students became my new passion.
In 2014, I began coaching players out on the PGA Tour. When I am not on the road, I equally enjoy helping golfers of all skill levels to improve their games. Much of my time is also spent at the golf course with my three kids Preston, Grace, and Cam.  Seeing their love for the game has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I am honored to be recognized as a Golf Digest Top 50 Teachers in America and also as a Golf Magazine Top 100 instructor.  I teach in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Silverleaf Club. Through golf, I have met so many amazing people. I feel very fortunate to teach a game I love to people that share in my passion.

Come see me.  I can help.
